THE Parliamentary committee on HIV/AIDS wants the Government to make a specific law on child sacrifice and trafficking, to protect vulnerable children.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye (Sheema North) is urging the House to review the Witchcraft Act.
“We have over 2 million orphans and other vulnerable children and the Parliament should assist these children.

Most of them live in families headed by children or old people. They cannot afford school fees and health care. The Government should do more to protect them,” Tumwesigye said yesterday.

The MPs demanded more severe sentences and speeding up of the justice process in cases involving children. They observed that children are vulnerable to HIV infection.

The committee wants the Government to take responsibility for the education of the vulnerable children and establish vocational training institutes in each sub-county.
