FOR first time gardeners, yet living inconfined areas, using plant pots as gardens is the best option. The pots ease the whole process of growing of plants as they are flexible and can be placed anywhere.

They provide less work in form of the small space they occupy, which makes the weeding process easy. They also add beauty in the form of contrast between the plant and the pot.

Joseph Muwonge, a gardener and trader in flower pots, opposite Lugogo Shopping Mall, says the beauty of these pots is that they come in many shapes, sizes and makes, giving one a variety of choice.

He says to a first time gardener, it is important to buy pots with a large growing area because small pots will require technical knowledge to limit their growth to fit in the available space.

“A good drainage system is paramount for the pot to get rid of excess water. For the best drainage, a pot should have small holes at the bottom. Big holes would drain all the water with all the nutrients,” Muwonge explains.

There are plastic, clay, cement and wooden flower pots on the market. One can get a pot for as low as sh5,000, but depending on the size and type, the prices continue to appreciate.
