THE board of the National Forestry Authority (NFA) has intervened in a conflict between Mpanga Secondary School and NFA over the ownership of a forest reserve in Fort Portal.

NFA accuses the school of constructing structures on a forest reserve.
NFA board chief Baguma Isoke while meeting the Kabarole resident district commissioner, Charles Ndiwa, advised the groups, both of which are government departments to resolve the conflict.

“Sanity has to prevail between Government departments. The leaders should not just watch as people engage in unnecessary disputes,” said Baguma.
He urged Ndiwa and other district leaders to intervene in the matter.

The team had earlier inspected the forest reserve that NFA claims had been encroached on.
David Matovu from NFA said the Mpanga school should follow procedures stipulated in the Land Act.

The Fort Portal LC5 Chairman, Michael Mugisa, deputy Mayor Margaret Kihiika and the district Internal Security Officer, Moses Kagoda, attended.

However, officials of Mpanga Secondary School and Fort Portal Municipality MP Steven Kaliba, who recently petitioned Parliament over the land conflict, did not attend.
Meanwhile, the NFA will cancel all land titles for people who have set up buildings in road reserves.

Isoke urged district land boards to assist the public in verifying land to avoid construction on reserves.
