NRM members in Pallisa district have been urged to support the LC5 chairman-elect, Issa Taligola.

The director of political intelligence in the President’s Office, Charles Rwomushana, noted that Taligola needs the support of the residents to develop the area.

“What NRM wants is development. Taligola came as an independent and won. If you are NRM, I urge you to support Taligola and let him develop this district,” Rwomushana said on Thursday during Taligola’s swearing-in.

He defeated Patrick Mutono, the NRM candidate, in the May 10 by-elections. Mayor Okou Opolot (NRM) explained that many party supporters backed Taligola because some people had fronted a candidate who did not win the primaries.

“We were annoyed because we felt that we should have decided on our issues from here (Pallisa) but not in Kampala.”

The district speaker, Fred Madautu, thanked President Museveni for not meddling in the political affairs of the area.

“We are behind NRM, but we do not want dictators,” Madautu said.

In his maiden speech, Taligola pledged to work with the Government to implement development programmes. “The period of political gymnastics is over. This means that we must strategically plan and prepare for the tasks ahead of us,” he said.
