BARCLAYS Bank will increase the number of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) from 13 to 51, according to the managing director. Nick Mbuvi said the move would improve efficiency.

He said within Kampala, the machines would be installed in 12 places to cater for the growing customer base.

“We want our customers to be able to access our products at any place at any time because our objective is to be the leading bank in the country,” Mbuvi said.

He disclosed that the bank would also soon open seven new branches to promote banking across the country.

Mbuvi was speaking during the unveiling of enhanced banking packages for the Prestige Centre Banking customers at Hotel Africana, Kampala.

Robert Wanok, the Prestige Centre Banking manager, said the bank had created banking products and services for the centre members.

He explained that the centre offers first class services to members, longer banking hours, free telephone banking, preferential interest rates and exclusive charges.

It also has specially trained prestige customer advisers. He observed that new enhancements had been designed in the centre to guarantee customers’ prestige overdraft facility for up to 50% of a customer’s monthly net salary.
Others are prestige insurance cover which insures customers against permanent disability and death.

Wanok said in this case, the customers or their immediate families receive compensation of up to sh20m. He said other products include increased ATM daily withdrawal limit where customers apply to increase their daily withdrawal limits. The current limit is sh1m.

Wanok also disclosed that the Barclaycard is now recognised internationally at any ATM displaying the Visa sign. He said this would help clients clear unexpected and emergency bills.
