FARMERS in Mityana district have asked the Government to promote organic farming. Speaking at his farm in Lubanja village last Thursday, the Rural Community in Development coordinator, Samuel Nyanzi, said promotion of organic farming would increase the market for Uganda’s agricultural products globally.

“You also have to encourage your people to practise commercial farming. “One can earn millions from a small piece of land if well planned,” Nyanzi told a group of leaders from Kibaale district, who were touring his farm.

He called for the enforcement of by-laws to limit excessive use of pesticides. The chemicals kill nutrients in the soil, causing soil infertility, observed Nyanzi.

He also encouraged farmers to process their products and make them more profitable.
