THREE Karimojong cattle-raiders were killed and their guns recovered in Namalu in Nakapiripirit district on Thursday, the UPDF 3 rd Division Operations and Training Officer Lt.Col. Paul L'Okech said.
“We killed the three Pokot warriors who had gone to raid cattle in Namalu in Nakapiripirit district on Thursday and we got six SMG guns during the operation.â€
He said UPDF also recovered nine SMG guns during an operation in Moroto, bringing the total number of guns recovered since January to over one thousand.
“In the last four months, a total of 1,179 illegal guns have been recovered in Karamoja. Since May last year, 7,199 arms have been removed.â€
L’Okech said the warriors were using illegal guns to carry out criminal activities, like ambushing vehicle and raiding cattle from the neighbouring districts.
He condemned the killing of the driver of World Food Programme, Richard Achuka, last Monday and said UPDF was hunting for the culprits.
