NORTHERN youth MP, Denis Hamson Obua has promised to promote the growing of upland rice in schools in Lango. He explained that not having a proper diet was the major cause of strikes among school children.

Obua was on Saturday touring an upland rice project at Adyel Boarding Primary School in Lira municipality. The project was introduced by the Vice-President, Professor Gilbert Bukenya in 2005 to boost the students’ diet.

Obua pledged to donate 15 hoes to the school in support of the project. He also urged the school to grow other income-generating crops.

The headmaster, Thomas Otema, appealed to the Government to provide them with a tractor, a huller, wheelbarrows, and a grinding mill.

The teacher in charge of agriculture and environment, George Omara, said they had already cultivated 10 hectares of upland rice.
