TWO women suspected of being HIV- positive have been expelled from Kendi, Logoba parish in Moyo sub-county. The women were evicted by over 143 residents during a village meeting on Sunday, for fear that they would infect more people.

By press time, the whereabouts of the women identified as Mary and Florence were unknown, since they had been warned against returning to their homes.

The LC1 general secretary, David Issa Kato, said the women, thrown out of the village on Sunday evening, were suspected of infecting young men in the village. “We warned them twice to leave the place or else be forcefully evicted,” Kato said.

The women’s property was dumped at the roadside on Moyo-Kajo-Keji road.
District chairman Peter Iku Dolo condemned the act, saying there is no law that justifies the action.

The district Police commander John Govule said he was not aware of the incident. “I have not seen or heard about these women,” he said on phone.
