SIR — It is so painful to imagine that some people can be so heartless. I am perturbed by the fact that a team of seemingly respectable and grown up people have taken the initiative to deny a 13-year-old girl a chance to get treatment. I am sure people who have taken keen interest in the plight of Aisha Nabukeera have heard the numerous talk shows organised by Mulindwa Muwonge of Super Fm.

He has also gone ahead to organise a television talk-show on Record TV where he was even contesting the efforts of good Samaritans willing to financially support the little girl. He seems to imply that the girl does not deserve treatment because she was not burnt by her stepmother! He also claims to have copies of the statements made by Nabukeera and her mother.

My question to the police is whether the public is mandated to come and take copies of statements whenever they require them. All these so-called investigations don’t indicate any relationship between Frank Gashumba and the victim’s family prior to their meeting at the Masaka court where he asked to help Nabukeera.

Where then would all these grudges have come from to make Gashumba victimise the suspect? None of the statements has stated that Gashumba drove Nabukeera from Masaka to the CID headquarters to report the suspect, Sarafina Ndagire.

Instead, Gashumba and Nabukeera state that from Masaka, they went straight to Mulago hospital. Gashumba’s courage to transport Nabukeera with her raw wounds is something not many people can do.

This indicates Gashumba’s goodwill. As Ugandans, we should collective support the little girl. Apart from her injuries she is severely traumatised. She should be treated and live like any other child.
