UGANDA Professional Boxing Commission president Celestino Mindra is to investigate wrangles between managers and sponsors in Kenya over non-payment of professional boxers after fights.

Mindra’s (right) appointment by the World Boxing Council came after WBC and African Boxing Union imposed a ban on Kenya from organising professional fights until it solves leadership problems and pays boxers their duties.

KPBC secretary Shaaban Ogolla defended his body over claims that it was facing leadership problems, saying it was some sponsors who were to blame for their failure to honour their contractual obligations with boxers.

“It will be expensive for boxers and managers to travel to Europe and fight there instead of at home if the ban was effected,” Ogolla said.

The ban followed a fight recently which was attended by WBC Intercontinental president, Mauro Betti where he witnessed boxers cry foul over non-payment by the sponsor.

Ugandan boxers who have fought in Nairobi have not been spared the agony of missed payments, with some forced to spend days in Nairobi chasing their payments.
