Few bus companies have bothered to give some of their profits to assist the needy, the Transport Licensing Board’s chairman, Timothy Baguma, has said. Inspecting bus terminals in the city recently, Baguma said: “It is high time bus managers invested part of their profit in communal activities as a sign of appreciation. Any profit-making institution has to fulfil its corporate social responsibility.” He also told the bus operators to educate passengers about the dangers they are likely to encounter if they buy food and drinks from outlets whose hygiene is not guaranteed.

Uganda should use high-quality data to establish credible criteria to assess progress of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a German statistician has advised. “The data used in MDG reports should be the best available from official sources and should be chosen to reflect nationally-agreed targets. It should be used to highlight disparities across gender, ethnicity, geographical location, age or other dimensions of inequality,” Markus Wauschkuhn, a senior project manager with InWEnt Centre for Economic, Environmental and Social Statistics said. The German institution conducts international human resource development, dialogue and advanced training.
