The district chairman, Nicholas Opio-Bunga, has sacked his vice, Betty Nam, over allegations of insubordination.

In a letter dated July 4, and addressed to the vice-chairperson, Bunga said: “I find myself left with no option, but to sack you with immediate effect.”

Bunga accuses Nam of making a press statement that was meant to undermine his authority.
Nam’s problems stem from a story which appeared in Rupiny, a Luo weekly on April 25, which quoted the Nam as saying the council had agreed that Atera Ranch in Akokoro sub-county be the site for Gulu University branch, a position, which Bunga said was never resolved.

Nam, allegedly told the press that the issue of the university branch was exhaustively handled by Bunga’s predecessor, Okello-Engola, hence there was no need to waste time arguing over it.

When contacted, Nam denied any wrong doing. She said: “ I was only re-affirming the chairman’s position and struggle to get the university branch in our land.”
She said that there was conspiracy to fire her.
