GIVE a new look to your wardrobe by buying yourself African wear, especially made from kitenge material.

The good thing with African wear is that one can wear it anywhere — be it to work, a party or funeral. According to the fashion you choose, you can look elegant and unique in African wear anywhere you would like to look unique and special. People in kitenge generally look elegant.

Bitenge are also ideal for couples that like to dress in a similar way. They can make outfits from the same material, but with different designs.

You can also buy them as gifts, especially to your parents. They will love them because they will enable them to escape from the ordinary traditional wear.

Anita Batunga, a designer at J&B Unique Designers on Kampala Road, says you can get full African attire — a wrapper, skirt, scarf, and blouse for between sh70,000 and sh100,000. A blouse with a trouser costs around sh70,000. The shirts cost between sh25,000 and sh35,000. Long sleeved shirts cost sh60,000.

Rose Nassuna, an attendant at Penny’s Africa Boutique at Kalungi Commercial Centre on Johnson Street, says good African attire should not lose colour after washing. At Penny’s Africa Boutique, a two-piece attire for men costs sh150,000. Free dresses cost between sh30,000 and sh50,000.

Tops and wrappers cost between sh80,000 and sh100,000. A shirt costs between sh30,000 and sh50,000.

However, these prices are negotiable, Batunga says adding that they depend on the material used.
