FORMER FUFA chairman John Semanobe will lead Nsambya FC in the Sunday Veterans Gala. Semanobe was an exciting left winger and inside left for both Nsambya and the Uganda Cranes in the 60s and 70s.

Nsambya, the first soccer club in the country, also known as Namukadde, has vowed to win the sh30m gala to prove that they are still influential in Ugandan football. Friends of Football (FOF) are organising the gala.

“We are sending out a strong team and we want people to enjoy the kind of football we’ve played since 1911,” manager Simon Sebaggala said yesterday.

Nsambya has also lined up former Cranes coaches Barnabas Mwesiga and Leo Adraa to lead their team during the preliminaries at KCC FC ground. Others are former Cranes skipper Sam Kabugo, captain Joseph ‘Katayimbwa’ Isabirye and many others who played for the club as far back as the 1960s.

Former Kenya international Maurice Sunguti will be one of the guest players in the 2nd edition of the Uganda Breweries-sponsored gala.
