MAGISTRATES should work hard and dedicate their time to work, Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki has urged. “If you cannot cope with this, please feel free to go elsewhere you think you can perform better. Don’t feel injured or shy to do so,” Odoki told the eight Grade One magistrates who were sworn in on Friday at his chambers in Kampala.

He advised the magistrates to exercise their independence, impartiality and integrity to maintain the high standard of the Judiciary.

Odoki warned the magistrates against starting courts late. He advised them to do research on cases to deliver credible judgements.

“You should always complete your cases and don’t delay in delivering your judgments. Any pile-up will put you on pressure, which might result in giving wrong decisions,” Odoki advised.

“Our objective in the Judiciary is to dispense justice to all people in the most professional manner without fear, favour or ill will. You have achieved a higher qualification. So, be more ethical and understand the rules of the court as you demonstrate impartiality, fairness and transparency,” Odoki urged.

The new magistrates are Rebecca Nassambu, James Ereemye Jumire, Charles Yeteese, Edward Okot and Emmy Sayekwo.

Others are Elias Mulele Kakooza, Samuel Kagoda Ntende and Alex Korocho Mushabe.
