THE annual MTN Kampala International marathon will be delayed by two weeks as Uganda hosts the gathering of Commonwealth leaders in November.

Due to the increased security ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the organisers have been forced to push the event from November 18 to December 9.

“We had thought of fixing it on December 2 but we felt that the one week after CHOGM will not help us put all the logistics together. We will be launching it soon,” said MTN promotions and marketing manager Aggrey Kagonyera.

Local athletics federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru said they would take advantage of the change of date.

“We are also trying to see how we can be able to change the start and finish from the traditional parliament avenue. What we want is to hold a race with a difference,” said Ayikoru.

Kenyans have dominated the men’s event.
