EXPRESS has said their priority next season is re-organising their club, not representing Uganda in the Confederations Cup.

Leading Express official Kavuma Kabenge stated that representing Uganda is an expensive venture the club cannot afford without help.

“Our priority is not representing Uganda, but re-constituting the club into a professionally managed side. If the economics allow, we shall enter the competition,” he said.

The Red Eagles’ failure to enter continental competition is not new. They didn’t enter the 2007 Confederations Cup because of lack of funds.

Express earned the right to compete in the Confederations Cup after winning the Kakungulu Cup on Friday, while league champions URA will play in the MTN CAF Champions League.

Express might have been unstoppable in the Kakungulu Cup, but coach Sam Ssimbwa also feels they still don’t measure up to continental competition.
“There must be serious recruitment if Express is to cope,” noted the tactician, who also saved a makeshift Red Eagles from league relegation.

Ssimbwa’s young side beat KCC 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in the final at Nakivubo stadium.
