PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni is expected to join his four East Africa Community (EAC) counterparts at an extraordinary summit slated for August 20 in Arusha, Tanzania.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni is expected to join his four East Africa Community (EAC) counterparts at an extraordinary summit slated for August 20 in Arusha, Tanzania, writes Steven Candia.

A statement issued yesterday from the East African Community headquarters in Arusha said the presidents expected were Museveni, Mwai Kibaki (Kenya), Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete (Tanzania), Paul Kagame (Rwanda) and Pierre Nkurunziza (Burundi).

The heads of state will discuss several reports, including the progress report on the national consultations on the process of fast-tracking the East African Federation.

Other reports include the EAC position on negotiations of an Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union, the council of ministers’ proposals for the Amendment of the Treaty and the progress on the study on the establishment of the EAC Common Market.
