NON-governmental organisations operating in Apac district should formalise their activities or be de-registered, the district authorities have warned. “We don’t want situations where NGOs operate in the district and we don’t know what exactly they are doing. We must know whether you are legally registered, your funders and how you spend use the money,” Kenneth Barigye, the acting resident district commissioner, said.
He was recently addressing members of the Link Forum Apac, an umbrella body which brings together all NGOs in the district.

Barigye warned that organisations which do not comply would cease to operate.

“Last month, an NGO, Uganda Christian Women Children, took 486 children from Apac purporting to educate them.

“They later enrolled these children in some UPE schools in Rukungiri and abandoned them there,” Barigye said.
