EDITOR—On August 19, you published a story entitled “Otto opposes committee allowances”. In a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, and Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi, MP Odonga Otto (Aruu) complained that Government ministries were hiring expensive hotels and awarding themselves fat allowances. Otto is right. It is wrong for MPs who are paid salaries and given extra allowances to solicit funds from Government departments whose business they are supposed to oversee!

But what is worse and downright wicked is for Ssekandi to see no danger in this state of affairs! Is he deliberately trying to kill Parliament? It seems such MPs wake up just in time to vote the Movement. There is no escape from corruption for this country with such leaders! How can the elite of this country find no fault with such practices?
