IT is very unusual for a starter to have over four songs on different radio countdowns at the same time. But Henry Tigan, who we have hardly known for more than a year, has successfully achieved this.

His first single, Lwaki Oninza debuted at number one on CBS FM, Dembe FM and Radio Simba and Akaboozi Kubiri in the first months of its release. The video of the song was also one of the most frequently played videos on Record TV, WBS and UBC TV stations.

Tigan quickly followed with Emilanga, which zoomed straight onto radio countdowns. This superior slice of local pop, given maximum impact by star producer, Steve Jean, might have failed to bring anything new to the party, but with its instant appeal and irresistibly joyous chorus, the song got many of us humming along.

Tigan continues to tackle socio-economic issues that affect our communities on Abogezi, a reggae tune. Tigan’s soaring vocals capture the feeling of the song.
Lwaki Omutuntuza and Tebakulimba followed.

He has done collaborations with international artistes like the US-based Mighty Mystique and his latest, My Country, was done with Marlon Asher — best known locally for his hit Ganja Planter.

Tigan’s eyes are also set on more collaborations with Wyclef Jean, Rayvon, Kevin Lytlle, and the biggest, a gospel gig with Jamaican dancehall queen Patra, who recently turned to gospel music.

Tigan will be joined by Dr. Hilderman, Sarah Zawedde, Bobi Wine, Toolman, Ngoni, Bebe Cool, Priscilla Kalibbala, Sweet Kid, Qute Kaye and many others, as he holds his first major gig at Sabrina’s Pub tonight. Entrance is Sh10,000.

There will also be another show at Ssese Gateway Beach in Entebbe at a fee of sh5,000.
