RALLY ace Rayiz Kurji marked his return to the local scene with victory in the Jinja Motor Club sprint on Sunday. Kurji, who last competed in Uganda over a year ago swept both runs, clocked six minutes 54.05 seconds to claim the sprint that attracted 26 drivers.

Alpha Rally Team’s Kurji, navigated by old colleague Faisal Tezikuba in a Subaru N 10, beat the reigning national champion Ronald Ssebuguzi (Mitsubishi Evo 4) by 23 seconds.

In third place was Omar Mayanja (Mitsubishi N4) who had been out of action since the National Insurance Corporation sponsored-Pearl of Africa rally in April.

Former national champion Ponsiano Lwakataka whose Subaru N4 had clutch failure in the second run, battled to finish in fourth position.

Front Page Microfinance sponsored Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge kept pace with the front runners to finish fifth overall.

Excel Construction, Simba Telecom and Madhvan Group sponsored the sprint organised by the Jinja Motor Club.
