THE Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has completed compiling evidence in a case in which he seeks to evict the trustees of the Uganda Scouts Association (TUSA) from the Kaazi camping site. Justice Rubby Opio-Aweri has set the hearing for October 1.

Kabaka’s lawyers, Godfrey Lule and Joseph Luswata, recently handed-in photographs of the disputed land to court.

The Kabaka on June 2, 2003 sued the association of failing to pay rent for land along the shores of Lake Victoria, Wakiso district, since 1993.

He has also sought orders for re-possession of the land and for the scouts group to account for all the monies it collected from the excavation of sand on the land from December 2001 to date.

TUSA, through its lawyers, Bagorogoza, Kaali & Co. Advocates, denies it breached the agreement, adding that the suit should be dismissed with costs.
However, Arthur Bagunywa, the Buganda minister of heritage, royal tombs and tourism, said TUSA is the bonafide owner of the land till 2048.

Addressing participants at the close of the scouts camp and centenary celebrations on Monday, Bagunywa said: “The relationship between the scouts’ movement and the Kingdom of Buganda started on a cordial note, with Kabaka Daudi Chwa in 1935 granting the scouts occupancy of some of his prime land at Kaazi.”

Stephen Butumbwire, a scout board member, thanked the kingdom for promoting peace, co-existence and cooperation among communities.
He also urged the public to support scouts in advocating for children rights.
