THE Police in Entebbe are investigating the circumstances under which a 14-year-old girl drowned at Anderita beach on Christmas day.
Sharon Nakitende, a pupil of St Theresa Primary School in Entebbe, had just completed her Primary Seven examinations last month.
“She went to Anderita Beach with her mother, a Police officer, to celebrate Christmas,†said Judith Nabakoba, the deputy Police spokesperson.
Anderita Beach is located 36 kilometres on the Kampala- Entebbe highway and is a popular spot for grilled fresh fish.
Witnesses yesterday told The New Vision that the girl went to the deeper section of the waters.
“There were many children playing near the shallow end but we don’t know how she sneaked into the restricted area. We only heard noises before she drowned,†said one of the managers.
Two managers of the beach have been arrested for questioning.
In Masaka, David Wamulaka, 38, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.
“Wamulaka, a peasant of Mpumudde village in Lyantonde, pounced on the girl as she was laying in the compound on Christmas Day after having lunch,†explained Nabakoba. He is being held at Lyantonde Police Station and will answer defilement charges, she added.
In Kayunga, the Police are hunting for a “hit and run†driver who knocked dead 13-year-old Senfuka.
According to the deputy Police spokesperson, the driver of the Toyota Corsa, number UAF 559B, abandoned the vehicle at the accident scene on the Kayunga highway.
“He abandoned the car and took off. We have towed the car and parked it at Bukoloto Police post,†Nabakoba explained.
