Rtd. Gen. Salim Saleh has said he supported the release of Dr. Kizza Besigye from jail so that when he is defeated, he does not have any excuse.

“I am among the people who supported the release of Col. Besigye from jail so that NRM candidate President Yoweri Museveni could defeat him properly with no excuse,” he said.

Saleh was launching NRM party offices at Mbalala township on Wednesday.

Saleh accused FDC of ferrying their supporters on each rally, citing a rally in Kayunga, which Besigye addressed on Tuesday.

He consoled the NRM supporters, saying big crowds do not indicate the strength of their opponents.

“Our opponents are ferrying supporters from one rally to another. FDC has done this for the past three days,” he said.

Saleh last week resigned from the UPDF after he was appointed by the Commander-in-Chief, President Yoweri museveni, to be an adviser in charge of the reconstruction of the Luweero Triangle.

He said his resignation from the army was meant to boost the party’s team during the campaign. Saleh said as army man he could not be allowed to participate in the campaigns so the best option was for him to retire from army.

Saleh attacked FDC’s Mugisha Muntu, saying he made mistakes during their tenure of office.
