Democratic Party presidential candidate John Ssebaana Kizito (right) has said he will restore army shops in military barracks when elected next month so that soldiers buy commodities at subsidised prices.

Ssebaana told a rally in Bombo town on Sunday that it was unfair for soldiers to buy their domestic requirements at open market prices yet they are poorly remunerated.

Ssebaana also addressed gatherings in Ziroobwe, Bamunanika, Kikyusa and ended in Luweero town.

He made several stopovers in between to greet anxious crowds who blocked the way, flashing his campaign posters. Some burnt essanja (dry banana leaves) as a sign to denounce President yoweri Museveni’s third term.

He asked Luweero residents to vote for him because he is their son, having been born at Kalule in Katikamu county.

Ssebaana criticised Museveni’s recent statement that the NRM was the suitable party to lead the country because it ‘passed through the furnace’ (battle hardened) unlike other parties which he said were “unbaked”.
