Lubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi yesterday said he went to State House on Tuesday, seeking President Yoweri Museveni’s support so as not to lose his parliamentary seat.

Inspector General of Government (IGG) Faith Mwondha, in a January 3 letter to Parliament Speaker Edward Ssekandi, rejected Lukyamuzi’s apology and late submission that his mother, the custodian of his assets, was in coma.

When asked why he ran to State House, Lukyamuzi said in Luganda, “Nze Ken wabwe siyinza kukkiriza kunzita nga ggongolo.” (I, Ken, cannot be killed like a millipede.)

He added, “I ran to the President because he is the Head of State. If he can pardon murderers and rebels, why not save poor innocent Ken Lukyamuzi?”

Lukyamuzi said officials at State House advised him to postpone yesterday’s demonstration by his supporters. He said he had obliged since his case was being handled.

He assured his supporters that he would be nominated this afternoon at the City Hall. Lukyamuzi argued that the Leadership Code has no direct connection with the Parliamentary Elections Act.

He said there is nowhere it is stated that if you fail to declare your wealth, you cannot contest for a parliamentary seat in the next elections.

Lukyamuzi also charged that the speed at which Mwondha was pursuing his case was premature.
Lukyamuzi insisted that he had filled the declaration forms and he had a copy of the forms with the IGG’s stamp.

He said declaration is one thing and verification another “and that’s why I insist the IGG acted prematurely.”
