THE Super Division Clubs Association (SDCA) has proposed a return to the traditional round-robin format for this year’s Super League.
The league, that is however yet to secure a sponsor, is tentatively set to kick-off on January 28.
SDCA members, meeting in Kampala on Wednesday, asked soccer governing body FUFA to replace the tournament system used by the FUFA normalisation committee last year and proposed the new kick-off day.
“We believe FUFA will take up our ideas so that the league finally starts,” SDCA public relations secretary Charles Ayeikoh said.
The league adopted a tournament format to make it easy to handle due to a late start last year. The event started late because of efforts to institute the FIFA road-map to normalcy.
“This time round, we are not time barred, so there is no need to organise the league hurriedly,” Ayeikoh said.
The new SDCA executive, led by Col Jackson Tushabe ‘Bell’ who is also Victor FC chairman, made the proposals four days after taking office.
Ayeikoh said SDCA will meet the FUFA competitions committee today to consider amendments to the league rules and regulations.
Police snatched a maiden league win last year and ended the seven-year reign by SC Villa. The Police victory marked a success for organisation, good coaching, discipline and support by the police institution.
Police will represent Uganda in this year’s MTN Africa Champions League.
At the same time, FUFA will spend close to sh30m to clear outstanding salaries for its employees.
FUFA public relations officer Aldrine Nsubuga said the workers will be paid on Sunday.
Nsubuga added that an independent firm, to be named on Tuesday, will conduct interviews for 11 vacant jobs for three-days from January 24 at FUFA House.

  • George Ssimwogerere will test his charges today in a friendly encounter with army side Simba SC at Wankulukuku.
Express fans are also set to meet this Sunday to discuss thow to support their team.
