THE Police have arrested four Kaberamaido district employees in a case where unknown people burnt the Kaberamaido office block that houses finance and 14 other offices on Tuesday night.

The block housed about 14 departments, including finance, audit, community affairs and local administration Police.

The suspects included district driver Joseph Elenyu and three office attendants; Julius Euchu, David Eleu and Patrick Emenyu.

DPC Willy Oleny said Elenyu was apprehended as prime suspect after the Police sniffer dog trailed the suspect’s scent to his house.
“The dog led us up to the driver’s house. It also jumped over and around him, which prompted us to zero in on him,” Oleny said.

The chief administrative officer, Raphael Okoropot, said documents, computers and other office equipment were destroyed in the fire.

“We cannot establish where the fire came from but we suspect somebody set the offices ablaze at about 2:00am,” Okoropot said.

“It is a big loss and setback to the district,” Okoropot, saying he came to learn of the fire at about 6:00am the following morning from his deputy.
