A Local defence militiaman in Kitgum district committed suicide after he shot dead his wife.

Charles Okot, attached to Amida detachment, shot his wife Santa Lanyero, 32, four bullets in the head with an AK47 rifle and later blew his own head off.

The incident happened on Friday in Lemo Bongolawic village, about a kilometer northeast of Kitgum town.

The officer in charge of crime at Kitgum police station, David Okot, said the cause of the killings was not yet known.
Okot said they took the two bodies to Kitgum Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

“There is no case for us to follow now since both the suspect and the victim are dead,” Okot said.

He warned civilians against exchanging derogatory or abusive words with soldiers, who he said are sometimes stressed due to hardships during their operations.
