THE Electoral (EC) Commission is investigating a petition challenging the nomination of Sembabule woman MP Anifa Kawooya.

EC chief publicist Jabweli Okello yesterday said the petition would be considered today together with others.

The petitioner, Joy Kabatsi, wants the EC to nullify Kawooya’s nomination on grounds that she lacks the minimum academic qualification to be nominated as a parliamentary candidate.

Kabatsi attached a letter dated June 13, 1996 from the then headmaster of Kigezi, John K. Birihanzo, where Kawooya reportedly attended O’level and a letter dated June 10, 1996 from the then headmaster of Kololo High School.

Kabatsi claims that the certificate of verification from the National Council of Higher Education dated December 8 was not received and established to the Commission at least two months before nomination as required by the election laws. Kabatsi also disputes claims that Kawooya obtained a degree from knightsbridge University, UK.
