Coffee prices in the east have increased by about 15% this month due to the Warehouse Receipt System, Christian Baine, the project coordinator, has said.

“Farmers from Suma Primary Society in Sironko deposited 2.569 tonnes on January 6 at a premium price of sh2,650 against the going prices of sh2,300,” Baine said recently.

He said the farmers had attracted a premium price due to improvement in the quality of coffee and their ability to know the quality details of their coffee, which they use when negotiating with potential buyers.

“The moisture content of the coffee deposited was 10.4%, which is better than the average moisture content of 16%,” Baine said, adding that all this information is availed to the farmers by warehouse operators.
