SIR — On behalf of the family of the late Gabriel Odria of Tanganyika village in Arua district, I challenge the malicious writer of the article “Hon. Sabiiti is Lugbara, not Mukiga” published by The Red Pepper on Wednesday. It came as a shock to the family that somebody could decide to drag our father’s name into the ugly politics of this country.

Let me put the record straight. our father was still in school in 1947 when Jack Sabiiti was purportedly born. At that time there were no African District Police commanders.

Besides, our father never worked in Kabale throughout his career. The so-called Tabisa who is alleged to have been Mr. Odria’s girlfriend is a figment of the writer’s imagination.

Secondly, before our father passed away, he left the names of all his children and Jack Sabiiti’s
name did not feature anywhere. Thirdly, we have no cousin called Sam Lonzino Odria. There is no such person in the Odravu lineage of Oleba.

I find it offensive for anybody to come up with such weird allegations about our late father who all his life was politically neutral. If Jack Sabiiti has any opponents in his constituency who are finding it hard to dislodge him, let them join him instead of bringing the name of a dead man into their ugly political fight. Our father’s name should be kept out of this nonsense.
