NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni on Monday declined to address a rally in Katakwi town, saying he could not defy the electoral commission laws that prohibited campaigns at night.
He told the crowd that had waited for him the whole day until 7:30pm that he would instead lecture them on the government’s developments programmes.

Man charged

The proprietor of the building that collapsed in Nairobi last week killing 14 people, was yesterday charged with four counts of manslaughter. Nairobi Chief Magistrate Aggrey Muchelule also issued a warrant of arrest for Francis Ng’anga’a Kihonge and three other co-accused. Four nairobi city council planning officers were also charged with criminal negligence.

Police warns

THE Police have warned the public against erecting shelters and gathering around candidates’ effigies, saying it could cause unrest in the city. Kampala Extra CID chief George Kanonko yesterday said the practice could easily degenerate into idol worship. He said placing sodas, mineral water and beers before the posters was wrong.

NAIROBI, Thursday — Kenya’s finance minister David Mwiraria resigned yesterday alleging he had been wrongly linked to a multi-million dollar corruption scandal that has rocked the government and infuriated donors. Mwiraria is the first official to step down over revelations about the “Anglo Leasing” scam.
