The Democratic Party presidential candidate, John Ssebaana Kizito, has pledged to institute a government that will respect the sovereignty of the Judiciary if he wins next week’s elections.

Speaking in West Nile on Sunday, Ssebaana criticised the Movement government for undermining the independence of the Judiciary, which he said, was an infringement on democratic norms.

He condemned the High Court besiege by the “Black Mambas” and Gen. David Tinyefuza’s outburst at the bench over the Constitutional Court ruling that the General Court Martial could not try civilians.

“We shall not exchange hot words with our judges,” Ssebaana told a crowd at the main roundabout in Nebbi town.

Ssebaana described the Movement as a government for “Museveni’s friends, in-laws and relatives,” who discriminate others basing on tribe and region.

He promised to create a government that would work for the general interest of its nationals on non-sectarian grounds.
