Twenty-three Karimojong warriors were killed in a battle between the Bakora and Pian armed rival communities over stolen cattle, reports Rashid Muzungyo.

Security sources said the incident occurred at Chepsikunya in Ngenge sub-county, Kapchorwa district, where the Pian had established a makeshift camp to access pasture and water for their cattle.

The sources said the Bakora warriors invaded the camp to recover their cattle raided by the Pian recently.

“Twenty Bokora and three Pian warriors were killed during the battle that lasted over six hours on the night of February 10, 2006.

Bokora raided 12 head of cattle and many warriors were wounded,” the source said.

The assistant resident district commissioner of Kapchorwa, Alex Nandeje, confirmed the incident.

He said none of the local communities neighbouring the migrant Karimojong were killed or injured.

Nandeje said the presence of the warriors had scared the local people.
