FDC vice-chairperson and loser in the Bugabula South MP race Salaamu Musumba on Saturday excited Jinja when she hit the streets driving in a ramshackled vehicle locally popularised as “FDC Mamba”, reports Abubaker Mukose.
Leading a procession of FDC and DP supporters on Main street, Lubas, Stanley and Kirinya roads, Musumba, in busuti, excited on-lookers as she cruised the vehicle while flashing the FDC v-sign.
It was the first time Musumba appeared in public after losing the February 23 polls to NRM candidate Asuman Kiyingi.
Jinja West MP Harry Kasigwa was her co-driver, while Jinja mayoral candidate and UYD national chairman Baswale Kezaala rode on top of the “Mamba” with several supporters, some hanging precariously.
Musumba and Kasigwa addressed Kezaala’s rally at Busoga Square. They are rallying behind the DP candidate to oust NRM’s David Wakudumira in today’s mayoral polls.
Accelerating the smoky and noisy locomotive to the rhythm of the drumming and singing, Musumba dared the Police, who were thrown into laughter on seeing the skeleton vehicle on the road.
Since commencement of the presidential and parliamentary campaigns, the Police had been on a serious hunt for the two “FDC Mambas” with no success.
They were designed by mechanics on Kirinya Road in Jinja to facilitate campaigns in Busoga region.
Close to presidential polls, Gen. Salim Saleh, on the campaign trail in Busoga, was made to ride one of the ramshackled vehicles marked “Kirinya Boys FDC Mamba One and Two.”
