THE director of administration and inspection in the ministry of local government, Tom Matte, has cautioned civil servants against engaging in politics.
Matte, who was addressing staff of Jinja municipal council on Friday, also asked them to avoid rumours at places of work and abide by the oaths of secrecy and allegiance.
“The law requires public officers to remain apolitical. As civil servants, we are supposed to conceal our political feelings,” he said.
He said tender boards were replaced with contracts committees to depoliticise procurement procedures. “Mukono was once a model district but its performance drastically declined due to political influence in awarding tenders,” Matte said.
