IF elegance was a significant aspect considered in CAF engagements then El Merriekh would have every right to claim for an extra point going into Saturday’s meeting with Uganda’s URA FC at Namboole stadium.

Sudan’s Confederations Cup representatives yesterday broke with the usual tracksuit tradition, stepping foot in the country clad in graceful brown blazers that caught the eyes of many at Hotel Africana where the side will be accommodated.

El Merriekh head coach Omar Mohamed however intimated that there would be more for the fans to the team’s weekend game than just the blazers.

“We have come to play smart football. We will take it like any other normal game. The weather also seems pleasant,” Omar asserted.

The Egyptian-born will count on the vast expertise assembled among the seven national players that include team captain Alagb Fausk and Abdal Hamed.

El Merriekh, table leaders in Sudan’s domestic league with 9 points gathered in three games, suffered a knock in their friendly build up to the URA game after a 1-0 defeat to Ethiopian side St George on Tuesday.

On the contrary, URA head coach Deo Sserwadda will take pleasure in the manner his charges dealt with league side Maji on Tuesday, in particular lead striker David Kiwanuka.
