KAMPALA — Electoral Commission (EC) chief Dr. Badru Kiggundu has cautioned returning officers (ROs) against retaining appointment letters of field polling officials (FPOs) before paying their allowances, saying it was neither a requirement, nor a policy. He directed ROs in a statement on Monday, to expedite payment of FPOs when they receive funds.

DP case
MUKONO — District Democratic Party (DP) deputy legal adviser Kiggundu Zirimala on Monday appeared before Grade II magistrate Justine Atukwasa over riding a motorcycle without a valid permit. He was arrested on March 11 and charged with riding an unregistered motorcycle without a licence or third party insurance and without a permit.

Sixty storm
WAKISO — Presiding officers and polling assistants who oversaw the February 23 presidential elections have stormed the district EC offices demanding their pay. About 60 officials threatened to camp at the EC head offices in Kampala if the chairman, Dr. Badru Kigundu, does not order quick payment of their allowances.

CAO shifts
RUKUNGIRI — Chief administrative officer (CAO) Frank Ntaho on Tuesday reshuffled all sub-accountants in the district. Ntaho said it was a normal re-organisation and that the changes would take immediate effect.
