Kampala City Council (KCC) has sold half of Shauri Yako Market to a developer, leaving vendors half of the market to develop.

KCC’s spokesman Simon Muhumuza said this on Tuesday in response to enquiries about why vendors had been complaining about the sale, saying they could have developed the market themselves.

“Last year, KCC divided the market into two and sold one half to a developer. The vendors will develop the other half,” Muhumuza said.

Shauri Yako is one of the oldest markets in Kampala.
