Badru Kiggundu should have resigned from the EC

Apr 20, 2006

SIR — The Supreme Court judges recently ruled that the Electoral Commission (EC) was incompetent in the latest presidential elections. But now one reads in the press that the EC chairman, Badru Kiggundu (right) is now in Adjumani and in IDP camps to oversee elections. Does this make sense?

I am only resisting the temptation to repeat what has been said over and over regarding the ruling by the judges with regard to Uganda’s 2006 elections. Had Kiggundu and his team resigned a few weeks ago after the ruling, his legacy, a very

poor one, would have at
least been restricted to February 23, 2006.
