Deputy Chief Justice Laetitia Kikonyogo and High Court judge Remmy Kasule have sued Jack Sabiiti, Winnie Byanyima and their party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), seeking compensation in damages for libel and slander.

The judges filed their case at the High Court on April 24, through Sendege, Sennyondo and Company Advocates.

High Court registrar Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya has since issued summons for Sabiiti, Byanyima and the FDC to file their defence.

“Should you fail to file your defence after the summons are served on you, the plaintiffs may proceed with the suit and judgment may be given in your absence,” the summons reads.

The judges contend that they were greatly injured in their reputation and in their offices and have been brought into public scandal and ridicule.

They state in their separate plaints that since the defendants ignored their notices of intention to sue and failed to provide any evidence of their allegations to the Chief Justice, they would invite court at the trial to construe their (defendants’) conduct as evidence of falsity, malice, and highhandedness.

They said the defendants wrote to the Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki, accusing them of bribery.
