THE army’s 69th battalion in the Rwenzori region has hit two Allied Democratic Front (ADF) squads, killing one rebel and seizing military hardware and food items.
The separate operations took place in Rwebisengo sub-county, Bundibugyo district on two nights last week.
UPDF 2nd Division spokesperson Lt. Tabaro Kiconco said the separate operation took place at Butogo and Makondo at around 2:00 am and 9:00 pm respectively.

Chiefs plan

LC5 councillors in Sembabule and the district chairman, Herman Ssentongo, are planning to organise their own swearing-in ceremony without the approval of the returning officer, Robert Twesigye.
Councillor Isha Ntumwa, who refused to take oath on Wednesday without his chairman, said they had secured a Grade One magistrate to conduct the ceremony today.

HEARING of the petition challenging the election of cabinet ministers started yesterday with the lawyers for both parties discussing issues that the court would rule on.
Peter Kabatsi and Oscar Kambona, who represented President Yoweri Museveni in the election petition by Col. Kizza Besigye, are to defend cabinet ministers in a case seeking to nullify their election.

Hirji cleared

KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has cleared city tycoon Karim Hirji to continue with construction of a hotel on Siad Barre Avenue and Kintu Road.
This follows Karim’s compliance with KCC’s order to submit architectural and structural drawings for approval.
