THE movers and shakers in Kampala’s high society were out in force on Tuesday to celebrate the 80th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II at the residence of the British High Commissioner, Francois Gordon in Nakasero.

The celebrations were attended by over 800 guests comprising government ministers, ambassadors, high commissioners, community and business leaders, and many others with allegiance to Great Britain.

One of the highlights was the two members of the Queen’s Guard, the iconic soldiers traditionally installed to guard Buckingham Palace, who had been specially flown in for the event, accompanied by a military bagpiper.

Gordon addressed the guests, praising the strong ties between Uganda and Great Britain, saying they share identical values and beliefs, welcomed the return of multi-party democracy to Uganda.
