KIU 49 A-1 Challenge 46

HADIJAH Kizza kept KIU Rangers looking very much like an expansion team in the MTN basketball league as they posted a 49-46 victory over champions A-1 Challenge.

Kizza scored 18 points and dragged down 10 rebounds to lead a balanced attack for the Rangers who made their league debut this season.

Barbara Namukaaya added 13 points and Aisha Nalumansi notched eight, including a key 3-point shot for the Rangers, who had a double-digit lead whittled down to two points early in the fourth quarter before they pulled away for good.

Rangers who placed two players in double figures scored on 25-of-66 ball possessions and held a 44-33 rebounding advantage over their rivals.

Carol Mugasha scored 18 points and Elizabeth Kizza added 10 for A-1 who lost their second game in the women’s first round.

The first round concludes on June 25 with eight matches on card at the YMCA and Makerere courts. Former champions Falcons take on Sadolin Power in a highly anticipated last game of the day at the YMCA.
