Councillors should stay at home and dig instead of loitering at the district offices, an official from the local government ministry has said, reports Chris Ahimbisibwe.

Patrick Mutabweire, a commissioner from the ministry, was on Tuesday addressing a closed induction training workshop for Bushenyi district councillors at Katungu mothers’ union centre.

He said they should remain at home if they do not have any business at the district, according to a councillor who preferred anonymity.

Mutabweire said councillors were not secretaries and had no business hanging around the district offices.

However, the remarks reportedly irked some councillors including Mpaka Ryari of Karungu sub-county, who said they were being addressed by a public servant who did not understand politics.
