Uganda sends Ivorians packing

THE only World Cup the Ivorian national rugby team offered to talk about on Saturday was their soccer team’s exit at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. This was after the Uganda Cranes rugby team gave them a thrashing in a World Cup qualifier at Kyadondo Rugby grounds on Saturday.

When the Ivorians stepped out, they were three times the size of normal human beings. That it ended 30-07 in Uganda’s favour was hugely flattering to their foes. Sponsors Bell Lager and Uganda Rugby Union must have felt proud investing their money and effort in winners.

Uganda played a game of tact that made a mockery of the Ivorians’ mass. One could hardly tell the larger than life Ivorians could also take a white wash. They were not diplomatic in defeat as the game threatened to turn into a mass brawl as a result of an Ivorian player being sent off.

The Song Fire from East African Bashment Crew at half time must have turned up the embers.

Allan “Socki” Musoke turned up the heat at the start of the second half, with the game closely poised at 11-07. His try and conversion set the precedent for a rout. One would be forgiven for imagining that the Ugandan ruggers were not only playing for their fans but also for the Sky Sports crew who filmed the duel.
