MEAT prices have continued to rise due to the on-going restrictions on livestock movement, The New Vision weekly survey has shown.

As a result, the price of fish has jumped as customers turn to it.

The Government last week banned the movement of animals from 19 western and southwestern districts following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

Beef is up to sh3,600 a kilogramme from sh3,200 last week while goat’s meat increased by sh500 from 3,500 to sh4,000.

“The ban has affected our supplies,” a butcher said.

There was a reasonable average price increment of sh500 on fish.
"The ban has affected our supply. We have few animals reaching our slaughter houses to satisfy the demand," said Abbas Ssekitoleko, a city butcher attendant.
